Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge – the ultimate African safari

Nestled in the heart of the South African bushveld, Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge emerges as a luxurious yet harmonious retreat, blending seamlessly with its surroundings. My recent two-night stay at this remarkable lodge not only offered an opulent escape but also a profound connection with nature.

From the moment I arrived, the Earth Lodge’s unique architecture left me in awe. Its organic shapes and natural materials, such as wood and stone, give the impression that the lodge has grown from the earth itself. The warm welcome from the staff was just as impressive, making me feel at home in this exotic location.

My Accommodation

My suite was an epitome of luxury, yet it maintained an eco-friendly ethos. The spacious room, with its private plunge pool and glass-fronted bathroom, provided both comfort and a sense of being one with the wilderness. The décor was a tasteful blend of modern and traditional African elements, creating a luxurious, serene and inviting ambiance. So much so that I didn’t want to leave my little piece of heaven!

However, I did manage to spend some time at The Amani Spa at the lodge, which provided a tranquil escape. The range of treatments, infused with African essences, were both rejuvenating and therapeutic. Coupled with the serene environment, it was a perfect way to unwind after the day’s adventures

Safari Experience

The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the safari excursions. Each drive, led by Ruan, such an experienced and knowledgeable ranger, was an adventure. We encountered the Big Five – lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, elephants, and buffaloes – along with a myriad of other wildlife, including a leopard kill, which was definitely the highlight. We also saw wild dog and cheetah, which made my day. The thrill of seeing these majestic animals in their natural habitat was an unforgettable experience.

Cuisine

Dining at the Earth Lodge was a culinary delight. The meals, prepared with fresh, local ingredients, were both delicious and artistically presented. On safari we stopped for morning coffee with Amarula, fruit and rusks. Evening safari sundowners included a delicious pink gin, or any drink of your choice with biltong and other snacks

Another highlight was a private dinner just for myself and Mandy, my partner in crime, in the extensive wine cellar. This 5-course meal was such an unexpected treat, and I highly recommend dinner in the cellar for a special occasion or a group dinner

Sustainability and Conservation

What truly sets Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge apart is its commitment to sustainability and conservation. The lodge operates with a deep respect for the environment, employing eco-friendly practices such as water recycling and solar power. Their dedication to wildlife conservation and community involvement is commendable, making guests feel part of a meaningful journey.

My two-night stay at Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge was more than just a luxury getaway; it was a journey into the heart of the African wilderness. The combination of unparalleled luxury, thrilling wildlife experiences, and a profound respect for nature made this a truly remarkable and memorable stay. For those seeking an exquisite blend of adventure and relaxation, Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge is a destination that should not be missed.
