Tanzania on the Trot

Blown away is how I would describe my first trip to Tanzania.

Arriving in the hustle and bustle of Arusha, a small African town from which you depart on safari, there is no indication of what’s to come. Tanzanians are warm, friendly and welcoming. I’ve yet to meet a sad Tanzanian – they are all smiles and humility, except perhaps the proud Masai people; who live up to the enigma that they have become – tall and colourfully wrapped in their blankets, with a slightly haughty pose.

You only need a few items of clothing since most of the camps wash, dry, and iron your clothes daily:

Pack khaki, green, beige, neutral colors.
A bandana or buff for dust.
2 long sleeve shirts, 3 t-shirts.
Underwear and socks.

Travel Tips for Africa

– A small first aid kit to treat minor injuries is useful to take and make sure you pack hand sanitizer and baby wipes for the dust.
– Spare cheap cellphone and then buy a local SIM card at the airport on arrival – use for airtime or data as you need it.
– Extra memory card, in case you run out of storage space on your camera
– A USB stick is a convenient way to take other travelers’ pictures home with you
